Before you upload massive wallpapers, try running these programs first. They can compress your wallpapers without any loss of quality. For instance, with OptiPNG, I was able to shave over 300kB off of >>639. Compare my pic with it. Exactly the same, except one's a good deal smaller. I'm sure those of you with slow connections will appreciate those savings.

OK here's the programs:

-OptiPNG (for PNG and GIF): http://optipng.sourceforge.net/
Find the one for your system that you like. Me, I like to run the command line one- just direct it to a directory full of .pngs, type "optipng -o5 *.png" and let er rip. And get savings in the area from 5% to 45%.

-jpegtran (JPEG): http://sylvana.net/jpegcrop/jpegtran/
Windows GUI version: http://sylvana.net/jpegcrop/
I use jpegcrop. I can't get it to work with wildcards (like *.jpg), so I find there's really no point in using the command line version. The settings I use for it that are different from the default are Progressive Coding, Huffman optimized, and no markers. In jpegcrop they're in File>Preferences.
